But where to buy?<\/p>\n<p>Quench, across from the Peabody Hotel, had a couple of decent mid-range Argentine reds, but nothing to write home about. A phone call to another recommended store,\u00a0The Corkscrew, revealed little more than the same.<\/p>\n<p>Time to consult Yelp, which revealed <a href=\"http:\/\/joeswinesandliquor.com\/#home\" target=\"_blank\">Joe&#8217;s Wines &amp; Liquor<\/a>, 10 minutes away in Midtown. A phone call quickly revealed this store was worth a visit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1760.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1760.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1760\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1760.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1760-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1760-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1760-500x375.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First of all, you have to love the retro Sputnik signage &#8211; your first clue this place is a cut above. And the Argentine red selection was very nice. While including the usual suspects like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.achaval-ferrer.com\/eng\/index_en.php\" target=\"_blank\">Achaval Ferrer<\/a> Malbec, the always-delicious <a href=\"http:\/\/luigibosca.com.ar\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">Luigi Bosca<\/a> D.O.C., and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catenawines.com\/eng\/wines\/alta\/catalt-mb-2011.html\" target=\"_blank\">Catena Alta,<\/a>\u00a0this proved the perfect place to explore the Terroir Series from Traphiche. These wines are designed to\u00a0showcase very specific microclimates and soil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/FincaAmbrosia.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-429\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/FincaAmbrosia.jpg\" alt=\"FincaAmbrosia\" width=\"600\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/FincaAmbrosia.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/FincaAmbrosia-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/FincaAmbrosia-500x311.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our choice was the Robert Parker 94-rated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trapiche.com.ar\/terror-series\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">Trapiche Terroir Series Finca Ambrosia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_1760.jpg\"><img class=\"usr\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/universal-star-rating\/includes\/image.php?img=01.png&amp;px=12&amp;max=5&amp;rat=4\" alt=\"4 out of 5 stars\" style=\"height: 12px !important;\" \/> (4 \/ 5)<\/a>\u00a0which sources from Gualtallary. It was a big, bold and powerful New World red that demanded a good steak and at least a half hour of decanting. Honestly, I still found it opening up almost an hour after the cork came out.<\/p>\n<p>At dinner, the wine accomplished its goal &#8211; which was to share with\u00a0new friends the incredible artistry, story, taste and value of today&#8217;s Argentine malbecs. We\u00a0can&#8217;t wait to try another bottle in the Terroir Series.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/JoesInterior.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/JoesInterior.jpg\" alt=\"JoesInterior\" width=\"750\" height=\"501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/JoesInterior.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/JoesInterior-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.drinkingargentina.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/JoesInterior-500x334.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oh, and back to Joe&#8217;s. They have a super-friendly, knowledgable staff who is eager to share what they learned, and for you beer drinkers out there, a fantastic growler station which sells growlers as well as customized cans of draft with their own distinctive labels.
